PUC May Update

Dear Friends,

Port Union Cares (PUC) kicked off the month of May with our first official fundraising event! Thank you to all who attended our Paint Night hosted by Framing Dames at Sofi’s Mexican Grill. We had a packed house and raised more than $600 towards sponsoring refugees.

We also want to extend a thank you to those who have volunteered your time, resources and networks. Next month we will be putting out a call to form a settlement committee. Joining this committee is a great opportunity  to become more involved with the next family we sponsor as you help coordinate housing, language classes and school. We greatly appreciate all forms of support.

Of course, the most immediate way you can help us reach our goal is by donating directly to PUC. There are many ways to give including by cash, cheque or online through Canada Helps. All of these options are clearly explained on our donate page. Perhaps the easiest way to donate is with your credit card through Canada Helps, a platform for registered charities to fundraise online. Canada Helps provides tax receipts immediately for all donations. 100% of the proceeds we raise go directly toward supporting refugees.

This month marks the end of our sponsorship commitment to our lovely Syrian family, though we have transitioned into a friendship that we hope will stand the test of time. PUC is now in full fundraising mode to sponsor another family, the details of which are being worked out. Keep posted!

In the meantime, look for us at the following events:

June 8th, 5 p.m. – 8 p.m. – Centennial Road Jr. P.S. BBQ Blast

June 24th, 11 a.m. – 3 p.m. – Port Union Waterfront Festival

July 1st, 11 a.m. – 3 p.m. at the Highland Creek Legion
