Dear Friends,
While we haven’t updated our website since May, we do send out more frequent updates that you can access by signing up for our mailing list. Just send us a message and we’ll keep you posted.
For those of us on our mailing list, you’ll know that a couple of months ago, we had agreed to sponsor an Eritrean family of two through the Federal Government’s Blended Office Referral Program. Essentially, this is a partnership between the Government of Canada, our Sponsorship Agreement Holder, and a local parish; however, Port Union Cares will be responsible for the family’s settlement, which includes social, emotional, and financial support.
Today, we have some exciting news to share: On August 10th, members of Port Union Cares will be picking up our family from the airport and welcoming them into our community. The family, composed of a woman and her primary-aged son, will need all our support as they navigate new social, economic, political, and cultural systems.
We’re still fundraising for this family, as well as one more family projected to arrive in 2018. While monetary contributions are the most direct way to support our work, if you have gently-used items you’d like to donate, please contact Kim at DKDeighton@aol.com.
Thanks so much for your continued support!
